Introduction

Nearvy (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a social networking application that helps people discover nearby events and walks, connect with others, and communicate through chat. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address — used for authentication and account recovery. Stored securely via Supabase Auth.
  • Profile information — first name, last name, date of birth, gender, occupation, bio, and avatar photo that you provide during onboarding and profile setup.
  • Social media links — Instagram and Telegram usernames, if you choose to provide them.

Location Data

  • Precise location — collected only while the app is in use, to show nearby events and walks on the map. Your location is stored temporarily to enable geo-based notifications for live walks happening near you.
  • Location visibility — your location is only visible to other users when you explicitly create a Live Walk (“Show me on map”). Outside of this, other users cannot see your real-time position.

User-Generated Content

  • Events/walks — title, description, time, location, and optional cover image of events you create.
  • Chat messages — text messages, photos, and voice messages sent in group and direct chats.
  • Profile photos — avatar images you upload.

Device Information

  • Push notification tokens — Expo Push Tokens used to deliver notifications to your device. A maximum of 5 tokens per user are stored. Invalid tokens are automatically removed.
  • Device language — your preferred app language (English or Ukrainian), used to send localized push notifications.

Analytics and Diagnostics

  • Firebase Analytics — we collect anonymous usage data (screen views, feature usage) to improve the app. No personally identifiable information is sent to analytics.
  • Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports and error logs are collected to help us fix bugs. Sensitive data (passwords, tokens) is automatically filtered from crash reports.
  • Firebase Performance Monitoring — anonymous performance metrics to optimize app speed.
  • Analytics and crash reporting are disabled in development builds.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the app’s core functionality (events, chat, notifications)
  • To show you nearby events and walks based on your location
  • To send push notifications about messages, walk requests, and event reminders
  • To improve app performance and fix bugs through anonymous analytics
  • To verify your age (minimum 13 years old) during onboarding

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Your information may be shared in the following limited ways:

  • With other users — your profile name, avatar, bio, and social links are visible to other users. Events you create are visible on the map to nearby users. Your location is only visible when you explicitly start a Live Walk.
  • Service providers — we use Supabase (database and authentication), Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), Expo (push notifications), and Mapbox (maps). These services process data according to their own privacy policies.
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law.

Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored on Supabase servers with row-level security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own data.
  • Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth with secure token-based sessions.
  • Images (avatars, event covers, chat photos, voice messages) are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls.
  • We use HTTPS for all data transmission.

Data Retention

  • Your account data is retained as long as your account is active.
  • Events are automatically removed after they end.
  • When you delete your account, all your data is permanently and immediately removed, including your profile, events, messages, and uploaded media. This action is irreversible.

User-Generated Content and Safety

  • Nearvy allows users to create events, send messages, and share profile information. We are committed to maintaining a safe environment.
  • Users can report inappropriate content or abusive users using the “Report” button available on user profiles and event pages.
  • Users can block other users using the “Block” button on user profiles. Blocked users cannot see each other’s content, events, or profiles.
  • We review all reports and take action within 24 hours, including removing content and suspending accounts that violate our Terms of Use.
  • Content that is illegal, harmful, or violates our Terms of Use is not permitted.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data through the app (profile screen)
  • Update or correct your information at any time
  • Delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account)
  • Opt out of push notifications through the app settings or device settings
  • Block other users to prevent unwanted contact
  • Report content or users that violate our Terms of Use

Children’s Privacy

Nearvy requires users to be at least 13 years old. Age verification is performed during onboarding. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or by updating the “Last updated” date.
